Frequently Asked Questions

What are your office hours?

My office hours are Monday through Thursday typically 10am to 8pm with the last session scheduled at 7pm.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length for individual sessions and 75 Minutes for couples or families.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an in-network provider for Aetna, APS Healthcare, IBH, HMC, TriWest/TriCare, MHN and accept California Victim Compensation Program patients. If your insurance plan pays for out-of network providers, I can supply you with a form, which is typically needed for you to receive reimbursement directly.

How long does it take to work on my problems?

That depends on the issues you're working on and their level of severity. Typically, patients come for sessions once a week. Some clients may come twice a week or biweekly depending on their schedule and needs. If you have a very specific issue that has presented only recently, many times a more structured and concrete plan is developed with a limited number of sessions. If you are looking to work on a long-term issue or problem that seems to be effecting a number of areas in your life then longer term therapy may be necessary. The initial sessions of treatment will focus on evaluating what your mental health issues and goals are and developing an effective treatment plan to meet your needs.

Are there risks to therapy?

While psychotherapy is designed to be helpful, it may at times be difficult and uncomfortable. Particularly, children and adolescents may have more symptoms initially in treatment due to helping them verbalize and become aware of uncomfortable feelings or experiences. You have the right to withdraw from treatment at any time you deem necessary.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. If medication is necessary, I can help you find an appropriate psychiatrist or physician to assist you.

My child is having problems, but I am not sure what I should do?

Meeting with a Psychologist specialized in childhood psychological development and treatment for a consultation is always recommended. I meet with parents regularly for an initial clinical interview to discuss your child's development involving pregnancy history, developmental milestones, medical history, social skills, parent and family dynamics, and academic performance. This interview gives me a broad picture of your child, their strengths and needs and is typically 90 minutes in length. I then typically meet with your child on two different days for 50 minutes. After these three initial sessions, I typically meet again with parents to share with them my psychodiagnostic impressions and recommendations.
